The SGD’s concept was originated in 1974 on the Southside of Chicago. The SGD’s were founded by Rudy Rios, who was possibly a former member of the Latin Scorpions (Maniac Latin Disciples). While incarcerated years earlier Rios was part of a governing body called the “Spanish Growth and Development”, which was initiated in the correctional facilities as a way to unite the Latino Folks gangs. Once Rios was released he was given the “blessing” from the Black Gangster Disciples to change the name to the Spanish Gangster Disciples.
